BRI is undecided at this time about the addition of new schools for school year 2008-2009. Historically, however, eligibility for a BRI grant has
depended on trailing year scores on the Mississippi
Curriculum Test.
BRI hosts meetings with eligible schools
to explain BRI's reading model and the BRI application process.
Applications from eligible schools
are then evaluated by BRI, and schools are selected on a competitive basis.
BRI requires as a condition of grant receipt
that the principal demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the school's proposal
for a BRI grant and how BRI's reading model would be implemented in the school, that
the principal agree to attend at least 50% of the training sessions in the
school, and that the principal commit to attend out-of-school meetings that
focus on principal leadership.
At least 75% of the teachers and staff must
sign off on the grant application, indicating their commitment to implementation
in the school.
Each BRI School is granted one year
of funding, typically to continue over a multi-year period to implement BRI's reading model.
