The Barksdale Reading Institute is designed to improve significantly the preliteracy and reading skills of children from birth through 3rd grade. The initial model for this effort was the Mississippi Reading Reform Model (MRRM). And although BRI has significantly modified the MRRM (for example, through the use of the Reading Universe and through increased focus on in-classroom core reading instruction), the MRRM remains a cornerstone of BRI's work in the schools.
